‘I always look forward to participating in the Graduate Development Program. Each year I am impressed by the time and attention that we invest in our graduates to make sure they quickly achieve the core skills necessary to establish themselves as high quality legal practitioners. The easy transition at Corrs from graduate to practising lawyer is supported by a strong emphasis on relationship building, both within Corrs and with our clients, and on networking in the business community generally. These skills are essential to longer term success in developing and managing client relationships, a feature of legal practice in which Corrs excels.’

‘Reflecting on the six years that I have now been at Corrs, the words ‘opportunity’ and ‘support’ immediately spring to mind. I have enjoyed countless career highlights - recent ones including my promotion to Senior Associate, and being the recipient of the Corrs Scholarship for Individual Excellence which took me to Houston in October 2006 to attend a course on international energy law. I don’t know of any other law firm in Australia that offers an initiative equivalent to the Corrs Scholarship program. I am now working on a major LNG project which involves travelling overseas from time to time. Career highlights translate into personal highlights, and that’s what has been so rewarding about working at Corrs.’

‘I joined Corrs as a Summer Clerk with no legal experience. Now, after three varied rotations, I have settled in IP and it’s hard to remember ever feeling more comfortable. Even as a junior solicitor, I work directly with key clients such as Microsoft and the Johnson & Johnson companies, across the whole spectrum of IP areas - each day is different. Corrs has provided an incredible opportunity to develop my legal knowledge in IP as well as industry knowledge relevant to our clients.’

‘After going through the Graduate Development Program I chose to focus on industrial relations law, but I was also interested in doing some corporate M&A work. I asked my partners to keep me in mind if something came up. Soon enough I was working on the Jupiters TABCORP merger. From day one I was in the thick of things, working with our team on implementing Jupiters’ business strategies, even attending board meetings. It was exhausting but great. One of the best parts was being intimately involved in a deal that was in the papers each day. In 2005, I was also awarded a Corrs Scholarship for Individual Excellence, which enabled me to attend a course on negotiation and competitive decision making at Harvard Business School. This was an amazing opportunity that would not have happened but for Corrs.’

‘I think one of the things young lawyers need to consider, as they look to build a career and a future, is the direction the firm is headed longer term and how it plans to get there - not just where the firm has been. I came across to Corrs at a more senior level, and when considering my options, what struck me most about Corrs was its forward thinking and decisive management style. It was clear that Corrs had a very focused and aggressive strategy that was communicated to all staff. This kind of approach creates terrific opportunities and a strong sense of purpose that I wanted to be part of.’

‘When I started at Corrs as a Graduate, I didn’t really know what I should be looking for in a firm, or how to sort the hype from reality. More important though is why I’ve stayed. At Corrs, I work in a large well respected litigation practice, with clients who are themselves sophisticated litigators. It certainly makes for interesting work. Also, as I grow professionally, the firm is dynamic enough to accommodate my aspirations. A high level of matter involvement, as well as the opportunity to manage client relationships, has definitely helped to keep me engaged and interested.’

‘I started at Corrs in late 2005, having come across from another law firm. One thing that really impressed me about Corrs was the effort that people made to integrate me within the firm. The best aspect has been the opportunity to work with different partners and teams both within the Litigation and Corporate divisions. I have been exposed to a wide variety of interesting and challenging matters, which has broadened my experience and advanced my career.’

‘I am originally from Perth but I joined Corrs as a junior lawyer in our Sydney office. I wanted the chance to step up professionally without losing sight of the other things that are important in life. I found that balance at Corrs. Professionally, this is a great place to grow. Corrs provided me with great training from some of the best lawyers in Australia. When I wanted to take my specialist skills further and add to my business skills, the firm paid for me to complete a Masters in Law and Management at UNSW and AGSM . Then, when I wanted to move home to Perth for family reasons, the firm made it happen. Fulfilment, growth, opportunity. That is what a great law firm should offer.’
